Chiari's Syndrome

means nothing but a syndrome. In the majority of cases of Chiari's syndrome there is gross obstruction to the hepatic veins. It is also described that in a smaller group the obstruction may be limited to one lobe or part of the lobe. While the latter may be non-committally mentioned as thrombosis of the hepatic veins, it is to the obstruction occurring in the large hepatic veins that the name Chiari or BuddChiari syndrome is generally applied. The clinical picture with some useful diagnostic features are described below in a case that was under our observation, followed by the post-mortem findings. Case report
